Larry Cecil Bame, 75, Tool & Die Shop owner, loved water skiing and shagging

Larry Cecil Bame, a lifelong resident of Carolina Beach, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sept. 10, 2014. He was 75.

Larry was born on June 8, 1939, son of Alice Bame and the late J.C. Bame. He is survived by his wife, Doris Shoe Bame; daughter, Melissa Bame Miller (Mike); son, Jeffrey Todd Bame; grandsons, Andrew, Daniel and Joshua Miller; sisters, Joanne Graham, Eloise Walker and Suzanne Brandon; and his mother Alice Bame.

Larry graduated from New Hanover High School, class of 1958 and attended Wilmington College. He was employed at Tenny Engineering and Singer before opening his own business at Carolina Beach, Bame Tool & Die.

Larry served in the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Carolina Beach. Larry enjoyed beach living, from boating and fishing to water skiing and shagging.

He is described by his friends as being able to create most anything required at his Tool & Die Shop. He was known to his family as a loving and committed husband, father, and PawPaw.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2014, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 300 Harper Avenue, Carolina Beach with the Rev. Shawn Blackwelder officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Bame’s family would like to thank all of his doctors and caregivers for their support, guidance and compassion, especially Dr. Neill Musselwhite and the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 300 Harper Avenue, Carolina Beach, NC, 28428; or Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC, 28401.
