
Gladys Leona Johnson Carney Lynch, a lifetime resident of Wilmington, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Silver Stream Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 97.
Mrs. Lynch graduated from New Hanover High School and was a very active member of United Advent Christian Church.
She was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Wilmington, and was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Dennis Johnson and Fannie Zellers Johnson; her first husband of 63 years, Woodrow Carney; son, Woodrow Dennis Carney; daughter, Betty Carney Greene; brothers, Johnny Johnson and Earl Johnson, Sr.; sisters, Vivian Wolfe and Louise Johnson; and her second husband, R.V. Lynch.
She is survived by her son, J. Terry Carney and wife, Dr. N. Lee Carney, of Wilmington; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at United Advent Christian Church with the Rev. Sam Worley officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
