WILMINGTON — Students looking to attend Cape Fear Community College for film studies will have an opportunity to receive funds to do so.

The Wilmington Rotary Club has started the Rotary Film Scholar — a scholarship that will benefit students studying Film and Video Production Technology. The initial $1,500 donation will fund a year-long scholarship for one student, with $750 allocated per semester.

As well the club will donate an extra $1,500 annually for four years, to help support five students a year by year five.

“In addition to the scholarship, the Wilmington Rotary Club gave a grant to the CFCC Film Department for production equipment,” rotarian Lou DiGiusto said in a press release.

Any student in the program can apply for the scholarship but should also have an instructor recommendation. An essay will be required of the student to explain how the program will serve the community; more information can be found here

“As the film industry continues to grow rapidly in and around Wilmington, we must help these students, providing resources and assistance to support their success in this field,” Jim Morton, CFCC president, said.
