WILMINGTON — A Sunday attempted armed robbery at an area convenience store has led police to a suspect they believe is also linked to a robbery on Friday.
A 45-year-old, Wendi Walton, has been arrested for two counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Wilmington Police Department officers responded to Buffaloes Market on Wrightsville Avenue in reference to an attempted armed robbery around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18. According to the WPD, the suspect bought a soda before displaying a handgun to the clerk and fleeing the scene.
Officers detained the female thereafter. According to WPD, it’s the same person believed to be involved in an attempted robbery at the University Tobacco and Vape shop on College Road. WPD reported Friday that the suspect was a short, white female with a small build.
She also displayed the handgun to the clerk at the vape shop and demanded property. However, the clerk was able to secure the weapon after she lost control of it and got away.
WPD is still investigating the incidents and asks anyone with information to message 847411 using the keyword “WPDNC” or use the Tip 411 app.
