NEW HANOVER COUNTY — For more protection going into flu season and the colder months, the local health department will have a drive-thru vaccine event.

Taking place Election Day, Nov. 8, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., in the parking lot at 1650 Greenfield Street, the event will allow individuals to receive a free flu or Covid-19 booster without leaving their vehicles.

Both the standard flu and high-dose vaccine for elders 65 and older will be offered.

Covid-19 booster shots also are open to eligible individuals. Both the boosters and flu shot can be received simultaneously. If the person has not experienced any previous adverse reactions to Covid-19 vaccines, there will not be a requirement to wait 15 minutes before leaving.

Primary Covid-19 vaccine doses will not be administered at the drive-thru, but the nearby Pandemic Operations Center (1507 Greenfield Street) will be open to accept interested parties; no appointment is necessary.

Though insurance isn’t required, individuals with it should present a card so it can be filed.
