WILMINGTON — It’s primary election season and to help prepare voters ahead of casting their ballots, various candidate forums will take place this week. All are free to attend and will cover pressing issues facing the community at large.
Primary Election Day is May 17, with early voting running from Apr. 28 to May 14. The voter registration deadline is Apr. 22.
Here is a rundown of forums taking place through Apr. 21.

CFCC Candidates Forum
Cape Fear Community College’s Department of Social Sciences and Student Political Science Club will present a New Hanover County Commission Candidate forum, featuring Democrat candidates, on Tuesday, Apr. 19, 11 a.m. –12 p.m.
WECT’s Jon Evans will moderate, and the event will be held at the CFCC Wilmington Campus in the Union Station auditorium, U-170. It’s free and open to the public.

The NAACP NHC Sheriff’s Candidates Forum
The New Hanover County NAACP is hosting a sheriff’s candidate forum on Wednesday, April 20, 7 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Livestreamed, the forum can be accessed on NHC NAACP’s Facebook page or via Zoom — register in advance here.
All candidates were invited to participate, but incumbent Ed McMahon and candidate Kelvin Hargrove will attend only. The forum will be moderated by Reddgo Long Jr.
Candidates Forum on the Arts
Hosted at the Cameron Art Museum, a forum will be held to find out where candidates for the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners stand on issues that affect the arts community.
The Arts Council of Wilmington and New Hanover County is hosting the event at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 21. It’s free to attend at CAM, 3201 S. 17th St.
