Water advisory in effect for Hampstead residents

HAMPSTEAD — Pender County water utility customers residing in the Whitebridge Road area will be without water or experience very low water pressure for several hours today.

This affects all roads and sideroads between the intersection of U.S. 17 and Whitebridge Road to 469 Whitebridge Road, including Mare Pond Place, Holly Grove Lane, Otter Pond Lane, Saddlebrook Lane and East Rolling Meadows Road.

While working, construction crews accidentally hit the water line, causing a break, but repairs are underway. Water service will be returned once the work is complete.

Periods of low or no pressure in the distribution system increase the potential for bacteria into the water system. Therefore, customers affected should boil all water for used for human consumption (including drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation) for 1 minute or use bottled water until this advisory is lifted. It will be in effect for a minimum of 24 hours and until further notice is given.

A CodeRed notification has been issued for the area. Residents who have not opted in to receive free CodeRed alerts should register online or call 910-259-1210.
