UPDATE: The precautionary advisory has been lifted.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Emergency repairs have been completed for a water valve break in the Hawthorne Road area of Wilmington. A boil waiter advisory is now in effect for around 300 Cape Fear Public Utility customers.
Residents located by Oleander Drive, Hawthorne Road/Forest Hills Drive, Country Club Road, Wrightsville Avenue and those living in Oleander Court Condominiums may experience periods of low or no pressure. There is also potential for back siphonage, which could come with bacteria in the water system.
Customers should boil their water for one minute and allow it to cool before consuming — drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, washing fruits and vegetables, etc. There is no need to boil water before showering or bathing.
Before CFPUA lifts a boil water advisory, lab staff tests the water to ensure it’s safe to consume.
