CFPUA expands area of boil water advisory, crews continue to repair water main break

WILMINGTON — Earlier Saturday, CFPUA released a precautionary boil water advisory as crews were making emergency repairs on a water main.

According to WECT, Wilmington Police Department reported that a car sank in a 40-foot hole in the early hours of Saturday. A water main break flooded the road; however, both of the vehicle’s passengers escaped without injuries.

Initially, CFPUA said customers in the 1700, 1800, 1900 and 2000 blocks of Carolina Beach Road were affected. Now, it has expanded to 100 customers in:

  • 1700, 1800, 1900, and 2000 blocks of Carolina Beach Road.
  • 519, 601, 602, 605, and 606 South Carolina Ave.
  • 520, 620, 624 North Carolina Ave.
  • Addresses from 1901 to 1925 Elm St.
  • Addresses from 509- 625 Tennessee Ave.
  • Addresses from 509-710 Alabama Ave.
  • Addresses from 1812-1998 West Lake Shore Dr.
  • All of Poplar Street, Amphitheatre Drive, and Honeysuckle Street.

As well, the repairs have affected traffic. Both southbound travel lanes on Carolina Beach Road between Northern and Central boulevards are directed to travel along the center turn lane. It will be in effect until all repairs are completed and road surfacing restored.

CFPUA customers should boil water for a minute, allow to cool and then consume for activities like teeth-brushing, ice-making, food preparation, fruit- or vegetable-washing, etc. Boiling water is not necessary for bathing or showering.

The utility company will test the water in a lab before ensuring the public it’s safe to consume.
