Law enforcement agencies, local governments, community organizations, schools, hospitals, state agencies, and nonprofits that help reduce traffic crashes and injuries in North Carolina can apply for the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program beginning Jan. 1. The applications, which are awarded for the 2022 federal fiscal year, must be made no later than Jan. 31 at 5 p.m.
Over 100 grants from $20,000 to $1 million have been awarded every October in previous years. Monies have been spent to:
- reduce impaired driving
- encourage seat belt use
- reduce speed-related fatalities
- promote pedestrian and bicycle safety
- advance motorcycle safety
- promote child passenger safety seats
