Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Kilpatric, 77, touched many lives with her welcoming generosity of spirit

Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Kilpatric

WILMINGTON — Dorothy “Dottie” Kilpatric, 77, entered heaven Friday, Dec. 25 2020, with courage, dignity and grace — the way she lived her life. She embraced her God, with whom she loved with all her heart.

Dottie was born to the late Robert and Doris Walsak. She graduated from New Hanover High School and was co-chair of the Class of 61 Reunion committees.

At her side for 32 years was the love of her life, her husband, Grant, who supported her life’s work in the real estate business and was by her side as she won several prestigious awards for sales. She was most proud of winning the Sales Person of the Year Award in 2009 from the local Board of Realtors.

Dottie will watch over her daughter, Tara, and her husband, Jim Burton; son, Kelly Williams; grandchildren, Lexy and Thomas Goodwin and Colby and Casey Burton; and cousin, Lynn Mhoon. She had brothers, Dennis Walsak, and his wife, Posey, and Robert Walsak, and his wife, Kathy, who she loved with all her heart. She will also watch over Grant’s children, Edmond and Ana Bela; and grandchildren, Nalili and Mai Linh, and son, Allister, and his wife, Phaedra, and their children, Ronan and Connor.

A doctor once said, “All people die, but not all people live.” Dottie lived every moment to the fullest, packing so much life into, not only her family, but also into her many friends and clients. Many of her clients became lifelong friends. When Dottie sensed a need in a client, especially those new to Wilmington, she stepped in, introduced them to her many friends, and made them feel welcome, like no one else could have.

Dottie touched many lives with her caring, generosity of spirit and love. That sweet spirit and joy of life will be greatly missed and cherished by all she came in contact with.

Services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 31, at Pine Valley United Methodist Church. Livestreaming will be available at pvumc.net.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Pine Valley United Methodist Church.
