WILMINGTON — Wawa is celebrating the opening of its second location in New Hanover County with a ribbon cutting ceremony, free t-shirts and any size free hot coffee.
The new location on 2402 S. 17th Street, will open Thursday, Aug. 13. Festivities start at 7:55 a.m. with the General Manager Mark Harris counting down to the doors opening at 8 a.m. The first 250 customers will receive a free Wawa t-shirt that says “Wawa Grand Opening Tour in the USA.” Starting at 8:30 a.m. customers are invited to celebrate the Wawa team.
The grand opening will highlight Wawa’s “parade of the ages” which commemorates company milestones, “Hoagies for Heroes” which is a hoagie building contest between local first responders, music, a ribbon cutting, confetti and Wawa’s mascot Wally Goose. Customers can also get a free hot coffee of any size through Aug. 16.
Wawa has been opening numerous locations in North Carolina with more continuing into the next decade. Building each store results in Wawa investing more than $7.5 million and employing, on average, 140 contractors and local partners. Each location has approximately 35 associates as the company expects to create more than 3,000 new, long-term jobs.
