WILMINGTON — North Carolina Independent film and video projects can now submit grant applications to the Cucalorus Film Foundation for the 2026 Filmed in N.C. Fund cycle. Applications close Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Grants range from $500 to $3,000 for films with budgets under $1.5 million. Film makers who are permanent residents of North Carolina as well as full-time students at a North Carolina university who live in the state year round can apply for a grant.
Women filmmakers, filmmakers of color, and LGBTQ+ identifying filmmakers are prioritized by the program, however, everyone is encouraged to apply.
The Filmed in N.C. Fund aims to support films and filmmakers that have a meaningful community impact and contribute to the state’s film economy.
“North Carolina is home to an incredible community of independent filmmakers whose stories deserve to be seen,” Dan Brawley, executive director of Cucalorus Film Foundation said. “The Filmed in NC Fund helps provide critical early support that can move a project forward while strengthening our state’s creative economy and celebrating the voices that make North Carolina filmmaking so unique.”
Applicants will be notified on funding decisions by Oct. 14. Grant recipients will be formally announced during the annual Cucalorus Film Festival. The festival takes place in downtown Wilmington from Nov. 19 to Nov. 22.
The program is supported by partnerships between the N.C. Film Office, Cucalorus Film Foundation, Southern Documentary Fund, Artless Media and The Magnifying Glass.
