WILMINGTON — A group of advocates and local leaders will convene at a downtown church to host a panel discussion regarding the area’s waterways.
“Going Upstream: The Environmental State of our Waterway” will be hosted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church (1416 Market St.) in Brown Hall.
The discussion comes as regulations on PFAS and 1,4 dioxane heightens among state and federal governments. Panelists consist of Clean Cape Fear co-founder Emily Donovan, Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Executive Director Ken Waldrop and Senior Research Scholar and Assistant Professor at NC State Jeffrey Enders, as well as staff attorney at Southern Environmental Law Center Hannah M. Nelson.
The group will discuss the threats to our waterways, as well as federal PFAS drinking water standards, an update on what CFPUA is doing to address PFAS and 1,4 dioxane pollution, research on PFAS in sea foam, as well as what state officials and lawmakers are doing to address concerns.
After presentations from speakers, a question-and-answer will also take place.
