Three Brunswick County bridges — leading to Holden, Ocean Isle and Sunset beaches — are shuttered, with at least one having reopened after being cleared.
The Town of Ocean Isle closed the Odell Williamson Bridge around 9:25 p.m. after being deemed unsafe for travel.
Sunset Beach closed its Mannon Gore Bridge at 9:40 p.m. until conditions improve.
In Holden Beach “a near collision and loss of [vehicle] control” led to town officials closing it to thru-traffic; however, the town noted in a 10:30 p.m. post that NCDOT cleared the bridge and it’s reopen. Yet, it could close again if conditions deteriorate.
It’s advised to stay off the roads as temperatures remain frigid and can freeze the accumulation of snow and sleet that began falling across the tri-county region on Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service Wilmington has assessed the area could see anywhere from 3 to 5 inches, with some areas potentially having more.
