[Editor’s Note: The boil water advisory has been lifted.]
WILMINGTON — Around 60 customers near Eleventh and Castle streets on the outskirts of downtown Wilmington are under a boil water advisory.
The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority issued the advisory just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, due to crews repairing a water main leak.
It affects customers at the following addresses:
- The 600 and 700 blocks of South 11th Street
- The 1000 and 1100 blocks of Castle Street
- The 1200 block of Glenn Street
- The 500 block of South 12th Street
- The 1000 block of Queen Street
CFPUA stated there could be periods of low or no pressure and an increase for back siphonage could introduce bacteria into the water system.
Customers using tap water should boil it for 1 minute before consuming. This is only necessary for activities that would result in ingesting water — washing fruits and vegetables, cooking with it, brushing teeth, etc. Boiling water is not required for showering or bathing.
CFPUA will test the water to ensure it’s safe to drink before lifting the advisory.
