City of Wilmington’s finance director retires, new leadership takes the helm

WILMINGTON — The City of Wilmington announced is a new leader of its finance department on Friday, Dec. 13

Former finance director Jennifer Maready, who has worked in the role since May 2016, retired. Maready’s final day at the city was last Thursday, Dec. 12.

In her stead, Martha Wayne has taken over, who holds two decades of experience in public and private sectors.

Most recently, Wayne was the deputy chief financial officer for New Hanover County, helping manage the county’s fiscal operations, investments, debt, grants, and capital projects. A certified public accountant, Wayne graduated from N.C. State with a master of accounting and a bachelor of science in accounting.

Wayne also has worked in firms including RSM US LLP and Cherry Beakert & Holland.

She will be responsible for overseeing the City of Wilmington’s financial operations, managing financial reporting, and ensuring the effective use of public funds, as well as advising leadership on fiscal policies and strategies.
