WILMINGTON — Some areas in downtown Wilmington are under a boil-water advisory as Cape Fear Public Utility Authority schedules work on damaged water valves.

It will impact around 200 residents, as the advisory began at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, for the following areas:

  • The 300 to 800 blocks of McRae Street
  • The 600 to 800 blocks of Walnut Street
  • The 300 to 400 blocks of North 7th Street
  • The 500 block of North 8th Street
  • The 800 block of Campbell Street

Crews are replacing the valves, so homes may experience intermittent low or no pressure in the water distribution system. This could increase the potential for back siphonage and introduction of bacteria.

Customers not using bottle water are asked to boil their water for 1 minute before consumption; this does not apply to showering or bathing.

CFPUA lab staff test the water to ensure it is safe to drink before lifting the advisory.
