Pender County bridge to close for maintenance

BURGAW —  A bridge will be closed to traffic next week in Pender County due to maintenance needs.

North Carolina Department of Transportation is closing the Horse Branch Road bridge at Long Creek, west of Burgaw on N.C. Highway 53 W.

The closure begins at 8 a.m. on Dec. 16. Work is expected to be complete and the bridge will reopen by 5 p.m. on Dec. 19.

The concrete bridge deck needs maintenance repairs, according to NCDOT.

A detour won’t be posted, but drivers should use alternate routes such as N.C. 53 and Malpass Corner Road. As well, motorists should prepare for delays near work zones.
