The Agenda: In local government this week

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, July 1

Carolina Beach Police Advocacy Committee meets at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room in Town Hall at 1121 N Lake Park Blvd. An agenda was not posted by press.

The City of Southport Board of Alderman have called a special meeting at 9 a.m. at 223 E. Bay Street in Southport. Meetings are livestremed here. An agenda was not posted by press.   

Tuesday, July 2

Wilmington Housing Authority will meet at 4 p.m. at Rankin Terrace, 415 N. 12th St. The meeting will include WHA Board of Commissioners, HEO Board of Directors and Glover Plaza, Inc. Board of Directors. An agenda was not posted by press.

Pender County Planning Board will meet at 7 p.m. at Hampstead Annex, 15060 US Highway 17. The agenda includes an update on the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and a request to modify the RM-CD1 conditional zoning district to allow private storage of boats, recreational vehicles, campers and trailers in Topsail. Surf City Town Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. The agenda includes an engagement contract with Ward & Smith and a planning board ordinance update. Livestream the meetings here.

The Carolina Beach Beautification Committee meets at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at Town Hall, 1121 N Lake Park Blvd. An agenda was not posted by press.

New Hanover County Schools Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. It is open to the public and can livestreamed here. The agenda includes:

  • A first reading on a policy regarding foreign exchange students, an MOU with Coastal Horizons for day services at Lake Forest Academy
  • $1.6 million allocation approval for structural foundation repairs to New Hanover High School (read more here)
  • Discussion of policies 3200 and 7300, regarding displays in classrooms (read more here)

Wednesday, July 3

The City of Southport’s Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 4:00 p.m. in the Indian Trail Meeting Hall at 113 W. Moore Street in Southport. An agenda was not posted by press. 

Thursday, July 4

Government offices are closed for the Independence Day holiday.

Friday, July 5

Oak Island’s Par 3 Golf Advisory Committee will meet at 1 p.m. in the Par 3 Pro Shop at 4188 Vanessa Drive in Oak Island. An agenda was not posted by press.
