WILMINGTON — A city council woman will be representing American cities on a national committee that is dedicated to advocacy and policy on sustainability, climate change, community resilience, water infrastructure, solid waste management and more.
Salette Andrews, who was elected to Wilmington City Council in November, has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2024 Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Federal Advocacy Committee.
She was elected to one-year term and will provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities.
“Environmental sustainability and climate resilience are of particular importance to Wilmington, especially as we navigate the challenges of sea level rise, PFAS contamination, and rising energy and insurance costs,” Andrews said in a press release Wednesday.
Andrews will advocate before Congress on behalf of cities, towns and villages nationwide.
According to NLC President Mayor David Sander, the agency works with D.C. policymakers on issues and challenges facing localities.
“[I] look forward to working with her to strengthen the federal-local partnership and grow our common knowledge of the issues and opportunities facing our communities,” he said in a press release.
