Starting June 5, American Airlines will operate flights daily from ILM to Miami International Airport. It will be a nonstop service, departing ILM at 6 a.m., with return flights from MIA departing at 7:55 p.m. Flights are roughly two hours.
American Airlines launched trips to Miami for one day a week from November through May. Flights departed Saturdays only.
The latest addition of the nonstop destination brings American’s count to eight; it also offers direct flights to Charlotte, Washington DC, Chicago, Boston, New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia and Dallas-Fort Worth. The Miami connection will present travelers an opportunity to fly to 70 destinations outside of the U.S. as well, from Mexico to the Caribbean to Latin America.
“We’re glad to hear the community and inbound traveler response to this new nonstop has been so strong,” ILM airport director Jeff Bourk said.
ILM had 1.3 million passengers move through the airport in 2023, surpassing 2022’s numbers by 21%. Its growth landed it as the fastest-growing airport in North Carolina and fourth fastest growing in the country.
The burgeoning figures have been attributed to the additional airlines and destinations adding to ILM in the last year. ILM offers commercial air service on American, Avelo, Delta, United, and Sun Country, the latter of which began service to Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) last summer.
