WILMINGTON — The identity of a female who was shot Thursday evening while walking her dog along Lake Avenue has been released.

Wilmington resident Shelley Lancaster was was shot multiple times by 35-year-old William Brent Gilmore as he drove by the 4200 block of Lake Avenue.
Gilmore has been identified as the individual in an officer-involved shooting Friday. He was pronounced dead on Market Street Friday after fleeing police from Wrightsville Beach, where he assaulted a victim in a home on Scotch Bonnet Lane.
