The Agenda: This week in local government

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, August 21

The Kure Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in commissioner chambers at 117 Settlers Lane. An agenda was not posted by press.

Pender County Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. at the Pender County Public Assembly Room, 805 S. Walker St. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Resolution to authorize the upset bid process to sell county property in Pender Commerce Park
  • Approval of service contract for Inmate Medical Services with Mediko, Inc in the amount of $467,759.00 annually
  • Approval of budget amendment and purchase of land on Hwy 210 in Hampstead for $6 million for future K-8 School

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. at the historic courthouse, 24 N. Third St. in Wilmington. The meeting will be livestreamed on NHCTV and YouTube. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Consideration of NHC board of education applications for public school building capital fund for repairs and renovations
  • Board resolution and budget ordinance related to opioid settlement funds
  • Public hearing for $57 million of financing for Project Grace

The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Approval of the Brunswick County Schools contract with Schneider Electric Buildings America Inc. for design-build for a data center
  • Approval of a budget amendment and 5-year lease agreement to relocate the county’s utility department to 3769 Old Ocean Highway and associated upfit costs
  • A revaluation update from the tax administrator

Tuesday, August 22

The New Hanover County Board of Elections will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. in the Long Leaf Room at the Board of Elections office, 1241 A Military Cutoff Road. The meeting can be livestreamed on Microsoft Teams here or by calling 1-366-218-2051, followed by ID 963 296 61#. Individuals can submit public comments in advance to newhanover.boe@nhcgov.com (noting the board name in the subject line) by A. 21 at 12 p.m.

The Wrightsville Beach Police Department will hold a public meeting with the police chief, David Squires, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Public Safety Building conference room at the Wrightsville Beach Police Department, 321 Causeway Drive. The public will have the opportunity to meet the chief, discuss issues in the community and tour the police department.

The Carolina Beach Town Council will hold a workshop at 9 a.m. in the town hall multipurpose room, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. Meetings are livestreamed here. The meeting will cover budget and project discussions.  

The Leland Planning Board will meet at 6 p.m. in town hall, 102 Town Hall Drive. The agenda includes: 

  • Quarterly update on the Leland 2045 Comprehensive Plan
  • Proposed text amendment to modify the recreational vehicle park regulations and permitted use table

The Brunswick Board of Education will hold committee meetings beginning at 9 a.m. in the boardroom of the Brunswick County Schools Administrative Offices, 35 Referendum Drive in Bolivia. The curriculum/policy committee will discuss the strategic plan and the review of the district’s bullying policies and procedures. The operations committee will discuss updates on the bond athletics update and summer projects. The finance/HR committee will discuss bus driver pay, possible changes to EC teacher requirements, and AP supplements. Meetings are live streamed here. The agenda can be viewed here. 

The New Hanover County Board of Adjustment will meet at 5 p.m. at 230 Government Center Drive.

The Brunswick County Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. at 30 Government Center Drive in Bolivia. The agenda can be found here.

Thursday, August 24

The North Carolina State Ports Authority Board of Directors will meet at 9 a.m. at the N.C. Maritime Building, 2202 Burnett Blvd. Members of the public can join in person only.

The Wave Transit Board of Directors will meet at 12:30 p.m. at Forden Station, 505 Cando St. in Wilmington.

The CFPUA Long-Range Planning Committee will meet at 3 p.m. at 230 Government Center Drive. The agenda can be found here.

Friday, August 25

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing on an appeal from the UDO administration on the interpretation of setback requirements at 5 p.m. in town hall council chambers, 321 Causeway Drive. The agenda can be viewed here.
