NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The leader of the school district’s communications department is named.
Salvatore Cardella has been hired as the chief communications officer for New Hanover County Schools. According to the district, Cardella is a retired Marine Corps veteran. He received his bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Bridgewater State College in Massachusetts, as well as his master’s in human behavior and organizational communication from National University in San Diego.
Cardella is taking over the role from Josh Smith, who exited the school system last month to work for the New Hanover County Government. Smith was with NHC schools for two years.
It’s the district’s fifth communications officer since 2019.
