The Agenda: Public input on CB budget, Topsail leaders discuss nudity ordinance

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — Every Monday Port City Daily will share upcoming government meetings around the tri-county region. If there’s an item of public interest, we’ll include that below the listed meeting, too.

Monday, April 10

The Brunswick County Planning Board is meeting at 6 p.m. in the commissioners’ chambers in the David R. Sandifer Administration Building. The agenda includes three rezonings, one near Ash including 266 acres from rural residential to medium density residential. 

Tuesday, April 11

The Carolina Beach Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. The meeting can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Public hearing to receive public input on the 2023/2024 budget
  • Amend capital project budget for Saint Joseph Bike/Ped Project
  • Text amendment to amend Chapter 40, Art. III. – Zoning District Regulations, Art. IX. – Development Standards for Particular Uses, and Art. XVII. – Definitions to create standards for Wine Shops and Beer Shops in Neighborhood Business

The Town of Burgaw Board of Commissioners will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the Historic Train Depot, 115 S. Dickerson St. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Reconsideration of an ordinance update to define murals. Read PCD coverage here and here.
  • An economic development assessment and plan
  • An update to Feast Down East’s contract

The Southport Board of Aldermen will hold an agenda review meeting at 9 a.m. at Indian Trail Meeting Hall ,113 West Moore St. Meetings are livestreamed here. An agenda was not posted as of press. 

The Oak Island Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers in town hall, 4601 E. Oak Island Drive. The meeting can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Public hearing and action on proposed text amendments to Articles 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 of the Unified Development Ordinance 
  • Consideration of amendment to Sec. 28-42(a)(1)(b) to allow right-of-way parking in the police enforcement zone
  • Consideration of approval of major site plan, Pine Forest Cottages

The New Hanover County Board of Elections will hold a regular meeting, 5:15 p.m., in the Longleaf Room at the Board of Elections Office, located at 1241-A Military Cutoff Road, to conduct regular business and discuss election-related matters. Limited in-person seating will be available. The meeting can be joined via teleconference here or by calling 336-218-2051 and entering the conference ID 194 100 916 followed by pound (#). Wednesday, April 12

The Topsail Beach Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. at town hall, 820 S. Anderson Blvd. The meeting can be livestreamed here. A few items on the agenda include:

  • Discussion and consideration of town attorney Steve Coggins to represent the town in the south end rezoning request. Read PCD coverage here.

  • Discuss a draft nudity ordinance after ditching talks last year. Read coverage here.

The Workforce Housing Advisory Committee will meet at 3 p.m. in the Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive to finalize the committee’s annual report presentation and future RFP priorities.

The Southport ABC Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. at Indian Trail Meeting Hall, 113 West Moore St. There was no agenda posted as of press. 

The Navassa Planning Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. at 334 Main St. An agenda was not posted as of press. 

Cape Fear Public Utility Authority will meet at 9 a.m., 230 Government Center Dr. Meetings can be watched here after the meeting takes place. A few items on the agenda include: 

  • Resolutions authorizing state-revolving funds low interest loan applications for various projects
  • $400,000 change order with Carolina Civil Works, Inc. for the find-it fix-it 2022 water and sewer repairs (renewed contract) change order No. 1

Thursday, April 13

The Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will meet at 5:30 p.m. in at town hall council chambers 321 Causeway Drive. The agenda includes: 

  • Conduct public hearing and discussion and direction regarding the speed limit on Waynick Boulevard
  • Consider changes to the town’s parking program for parking spaces in two commercial parking areas 
  • Consider approval of Resolution 2302 authorizing the mayor to sign a memorandum of agreement among the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the town regarding the use of the continental shelf sand resources for the beach nourishment project 

The Carolina Beach Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd. The meeting can be livestreamed here. The agenda includes: 

  • Text amendment to amend Chapter 40, Art. XVII. – Definitions to amend the definition of Gross floor area, outdoor

The Surf City Planning Board will meet at 4 p.m. at the Surf City Municipal Complex, 214 W. Florence Way. An agenda was not posted by press.

The Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 102 N. Third St. The meeting can be livestreamed on GTV8 and YouTube. The agenda can be found here.

The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold an agenda review at 4 p.m. in the County Government Center.

The Southport Board of Aldermen will meet at 6 p.m. in the Southport Community Building, 223 E. Bay St. Meetings can be livestreamed. An agenda was not posted as of press. 

The Navassa Planning Board is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. at 334 Main St. An agenda was not posted as of press. 

The Leland Economic Development Committee meets at 6 p.m. at town hall. Gary Vidmar will present an economic development report and update to its strategic economic plan. The meeting can be livestreamed here.
