SOUTHEASTERN, N.C. — Early voting is officially in full swing. From Thursday through Halloween, voters have the chance to cast their ballots early — and register to vote — at any polling place in their county.

Same-day registration is open during this period, allowing voters with outdated registrations the ability to update their address and information before casting a ballot.

Come Election Day, your ballot may not be counted or you may not be permitted to vote if you have not already registered. On Election Day, voters must vote at their assigned polling place; during the early voting period, voters may cast a ballot at any open location in their county.

To register to vote during the same-day voting period, you will be asked to provide “proof of address” to a poll worker. This may consist of a valid photo ID or a document (like a bill) dated within three months that shows your name and current address. Electronic documents are permissible, so long as they are shown from an original source (like an e-bill from a utility website or an online bank statement).

Look up your sample ballot before heading to the polls.
