Open Letter to Community from Members of the NHRMC Medical Staff and the PMH Medical Staff [Free read]

As members of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) Medical Staff and the Pender Memorial Hospital (PMH) Medical Staff, we support a recommendation from the Partnership Advisory Group to pursue a partnership between NHRMC and Novant Health and the enhanced relationship the agreement would bring with UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine.

We believe this represents a unique opportunity to make the exceptional care offered at NHRMC, PMH, and in our community even better.

Every day, we experience the challenges that come from trying to improve the health of our rapidly growing population. While we have the skill and desire to do what is best for all those who live in southeastern North Carolina, the needs outpace our resources.

A partnership could provide those resources. With access to real-time data systems and an infrastructure that allows our medical community to grow with our region, we can serve more people with better coordinated care. We can identify disparities in health and outcomes and work to eliminate them. We can invest in the tools and technology that provide both more sophisticated and more cost-effective care. We can attract top clinical talent to train here and serve generations to come.

Through their proposals and presentations, we believe Novant Health, UNC Health and UNC School of Medicine offer an excellent opportunity for us to advance care in our region and serve all those who rely on us for their health and well-being.

This partnership could be transformative for our region and is worth further consideration.
