WILMINGTON — After a strange turn of events, the Wilmington Police Department are searching for a man who police had already managed to stop in Downtown Wilmington.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when police received an anonymous phone call about a man trying to ‘incite violence.’

“When police arrived, the gentleman attempted to flee. Police blocked off 3rd St. between Chestnut and Princess and have since been calmly talking to him, trying to get him to exit the vehicle. Chief Williams is on scene and has spoken to him,” according to the Wilmington Police Department’s Twitter.

The man eventually fled the scene and police are currently searching for Oscar Pinilla.

“Police are searching for a dark grey in color Lincoln SUV driven by 56 year old Oscar Pinilla. We have involuntary commitment paperwork taken out on him. If you see him, please do not interact with him. Call 911 immediately,” police tweeted.

It is not clear how the suspect managed to escape while the police had him surrounded.
