
Update: “The driver of a moped is in serious condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center this morning. Traffic Investigators believe the moped driver was heading east on the MLK Parkway near the McCrae Street overpass and while changing lanes hit a trailer connected to a truck and lost control of the moped. The moped driver was thrown over the side of the overpass and was extracted by fire rescue,” according to the Wilmington Police Department.
The crash happened around 7:30 am this morning. Police believe the driver fell about 60 feet over the side of the overpass. The roadway was shut down for several hours this morning. No charges have been filed at this time.
WILMINGTON — The driver of a moped has been taken to New Hanover County Regional Medical Center Wednesday morning after an accident involving a truck.
According to a Wilmington Police Department Tweet sent Wednesday morning, “Police investigating traffic crash on MLK Parkway. Moped driver thrown over side of overpass after being hit by a truck. Driver transported to NHRMC.”
Around 8 a.m. the police department tweeted that MLK Parkway Eastbound was closed from the Isabelle Holmes bridge until 23rd Street, encouraging drivers to find an alternative route.
This is a developing story and police are working to get more information out regarding the accident. The condition of the driver is not yet known.
