LELAND — A childcare facility in Leland has reopened after being informed a child who attended the facility tested positive for Covid-19. The child was asymptomatic.
KinderStop informed parents it was contacted by Brunswick County Health Services about the Covid-19 positive case.
County health officials and KinderStop employees worked to identify individuals that may have been in close contact with the child. Individuals and their guardians who have not been contacted individually will not be asked to take special action other than to monitor for symptoms, according to a notice shared by the facility on May 24.
After first opening in January 2019, KinderStop provides drop-in daycare, after school care, and camps. The facility reopened May 11 for full week camps and regular drop-in care at 50% capacity.
After sharing the notice to guardians regarding the Covid-19 positive case, the facility performed a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection of the space over the weekend, remaining closed Sunday and Monday.
“We are saddened by this unfortunate occurrence and any concern or difficulties this may cause our KinderStop families. At the same time, we recognize that these occurrences are to be expected as we seek to re-open our economy and expand our coronavirus testing capabilities. We appreciate your patience and understanding,” the owners wrote in the notice.
