Brunswick schools closing early on Tuesday; UNCW evacuating, closing for the week [Free read]

Update 12:30 p.m. – The University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) announced today that all students must evacuate campus, including dorms, by 5 p.m. on Tuesday. All classes are cancelled this week. UNCW will close Tuesday evening and remain closed through Friday, September 6. Housing updates for students can be found here.

 BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County schools will operate on a half-day schedule on Tuesday.
According to Brunswick County Schools spokesman Daniel Seamans, the closures will allow families to prepare for the possible impact of Hurricane Dorian, currently a Category 4 storm off the coast of Florida, now tracking north towards the Carolinas.
The dismissal schedule is as follows:
High School — 11:45 a.m.
Middle School — 12 p.m.
Elementary School — 12:45 p.m.
New Hanover and Pender county schools have not yet announced any closures or early dismissals. This article will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
