Update, Wednesday 9:30 a.m. – According to Captain Jason Bishop with the Wrightsville Beach Police Department: “Officers were dispatched to Station One Condos in reference to a possible domestic disturbance.  When they arrived they noticed the unit was in disarray and there was damaged furniture.  The officers interviewed both the male and female and determined that Mr. Hasson was the aggressor.  He was taken into custody without further incident.  He was held on no bond and had a first appearance yesterday.”

Michael Lee Hasson, 55, was arrested by the Wrightsville Beach Police Department (WBPD) around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, July 8, at his residence. He has been under court-ordered “lockdown,” as part of the conditions of release after his initial arrest in January.

Hasson is facing 30 charges, including several counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, over a dozen counts of sexual battery, one count of statutory rape, and numerous felony second-degree forcible sex offenses. According to the Wilmington Police Department, the first complaints were received in 2017, but alleged offenses took place between 2009 and 2018.

The officer narrative was redacted from the incident report provided by WBPD; the report did indicate that Hasson had been drinking when he assaulted a woman identified as his current or former girlfriend.
Hasson was being held in the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office detention facility of $50,000 secured bond before being released Tuesday evening.
