WILMINGTON — Police are searching for 29-year-old Elisha Jason King, a Leland man who is accused of rear-ending a pickup truck, admitting to the other driver he had been drinking and had no license, and then leaving the scene before emergency vehicles could arrive.

“Police responded to a hit and run at the intersection of Third and Market Streets around 9:30 p.m. on April 20. King rear-ended the victim at a high rate of speed, causing significant damage. After the crash, both drivers exited their vehicles and spoke briefly. The victim told officers King asked if everyone was okay and apologized, saying he didn’t have a license and that he had been drinking, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

“While they were speaking, the victim said they heard sirens approaching, at which point King got back into his car, pulled around the totaled pickup truck and fled. While he was fleeing, the victim and his passenger were able to obtain the registration number of King’s car,” the release concludes.

Warrants were obtained for hit and run, driving with a revoked license and failure to reduce speed, police are asking anyone with information on King’s whereabouts to contact them.
