Storms are expected to hit the region late Friday afternoon
WILMINGTON — A strong cold front moving across the country is expected to bring some severe weather to the Cape Fear region according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
Strong thunderstorms are expected on Friday along with the possibility of a tornado or two, according to a statement from the NWS. Strong and possibly damaging wind gusts are also expected.
The strongest stormy weather is expected eastward of the I-95 corridor meaning the entirety of Coastal North Carolina is at risk for severe storms.
Light showers are expected in the region early Friday, but the severe weather is expected to hit the area in the late afternoon and early evening.
“A strong cold front will sweep through the Southeast United States Friday into Friday Evening. A band of thunderstorms will develop along and ahead of the cold front Friday. Damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes could occur with these thunderstorms,” according to the NWS.
Rip currents and high seas are also a concern and boaters along with beachgoers should take caution.
