HAMPSTEAD — A new Friday night concert series is coming to Kiwanis Park in Hampstead this summer.

Eagles tribute band Eaglewing, who played at the New Year’s Eve Blueberry Drop in Burgaw, will kick off the county’s inaugural concert season on May 31.

Pender County Parks and Recreation supervisor Zachary White said the idea to launch the Hampstead Alive After Five series came from high interest among many of the county’s residents.

County spokesperson Tammy Proctor said the concerts played well into the county’s goals of raising awareness for its parks, for local residents and tourists.

Eaglewing’s late-May concert will be followed by the British Invaders on June 21 and Randy Knight and the Parrot Party on July 19. The British Invaders are known to play tribute songs by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and The Who while Knight’s band is devoted to Jimmy Buffet.

According to a county release announcing the series, the concerts will be held at Hampstead Kiwanis Park at 586 Sloop Point Loop Road; each will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the free shows. Food trucks will be on site throughout the series.

Alcohol and pets are prohibited. For more information, contact Parks and Recreation at (910) 259-1330.
