OAK ISLAND — More than a dozen different fire departments worked on battling a blaze Sunday night at the Ocean Crest Motel in Oak Island.

“Upon arrival of the first engine at 10:08 p.m., the officer and crew observed heavy fire and smoke on the right side of the structure and rapidly growing fire conditions due to heavy sustained winds off the ocean. The fire was brought under control at approximately 1:00 a.m. on March 4. The fire was contained to one building. Although several other buildings and vehicles sustained exterior heat damage, no other buildings or structures were damaged by fire,” according to the release.
