WILMINGTON — Wave Transit is asking for the public’s help in naming the newly revised downtown trolley program.

In 2018, Wave Transit piloted two trolley routes in response to feedback provided by the public, community partners and economic development groups. The expanded route most favored by the community was launched on October 15, 2018.

The revised trolley route provides service to all five downtown districts, including “North Waterfront, Brooklyn Arts, Central Business, Castle Street, and South Front,” according to a Wave Transit press release.

So, now the trolley program needs a new name. The contest officially opened on March 1 and will be open until the end of the month.

Suggestions can be made online at the Wave Transit website.

“Finalists will be announced and a winner will be selected by community vote in May 2019. Prizes will be awarded to finalists and the contest winner will receive a grand prize. Wave Transit will work with Rhonda Bellamy and members of the Arts Council to develop a brand around the new name selected by the community. The revised brand will be unveiled to the public with the arrival of the new trolley vehicles in the fall of 2019,” according to the release.

WAVE did not specify what the finalist or grand prizes would be.
