Boiling Spring Lakes Police Department (BSLPD) initially responded to the Aug. 8 incident on Crabapple Road, calling for the arrest of an unidentified black male between the age of 40 and 45, who had fled the scene.

Approximately five hours after the incident occurred, BSLPD issued warrants for the arrest of David Leroy Moore, II, based on an initial investigation. His photograph was distributed to news outlets and was described as being armed and dangerous.

Moore turned himself in less than 14 hours after BSLPD issued warrants calling for his arrest. He told investigators new information, and BSLPD dropped all charges relating to the incident.

Now, it seems investigators are confident they have arrested the right man.

On Thursday, four months after the incident, BSLPD arrested Holmes, 33, on attempted first-degree murder and assault inflicting serious injury.

It took enlisting the help of the United States Marshals Service to track down Holmes, who was ultimately found in a Boiling Spring Lakes residence, according to a BSLPD press release.

U.S. Marshals, Oak Island police, and BSLPD officers all assisted in Holmes arrest. He is currently being held in Brunswick County jail on a $1 million secured bond.
