WILMINGTON—Planned work on the Isabel Holmes Bridge by the North Carolina Department of Transportation begins tonight

According to the NCDOT, crews will be replacing expansion joints on the bridge, requiring intermittent closures for the next six weeks.

“Drivers traveling on the U.S. 74 Bridge/ Martin Luther King Boulevard over the Northeast Cape Fear River in New Hanover County will likely encounter intermittent lane closures,” the NCDOT stated.

The closures will run from Sunday, July 15, through Aug. 31. Work will be done at night, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. One lane will remain open to traffic at all time, according to NCDOT, but drivers are urged to plan for delays and travel slowly through construction areas.
