WILMINGTON—The Wilmington Police Department is searching for Rolandy Willis Beatty, after he allegedly lured his ex-girlfriend into a near-fatal knife attack just blocks from police headquarters.

Wilmington resident Beatty, 25, used a fake Facebook account to convince his ex-girlfriend to meet him on the 900 block of McRae Street. Around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, Beatty’s ex-girlfriend discovered Beatty waiting for her; he stabbed her repeatedly, stole her phone and left the scene.

The victim was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and remains in serious condition.

Though the 900 block of McRae street is just five blocks from the Wilmington Police Department headquarters, it is also poorly lit; one side of McRae street on that block is wooded and there are no streetlights along the road.

The Wilmington Police Department issued a warrant for Beatty, charging him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and assault causing serious injuries. Aside from a traffic ticket, for which Beatty is due in court next month, he appears to have no prior record.

The Wilmington Police are asking anyone with information about Beatty to call 910-343-3600 or to use the Department’s Text-A-Tip service.
