A rundown of recent accomplishments from the Cape Fear area:

CFCC Student Benefits from Estate Planning Council Scholarship

New Hanover County Estate Planning Council recently awarded Cape Fear Community College student Kelsey Tregembo a $1,500 scholarship. CFCC Director of Annual Giving Wendy Littlefield accepted the check awarded to a CFCC student pursuing an associate of arts in business and transferring to a four-year university.

New Hanover Estate Planning Council President Richard Pasquantonio said, “Cape Fear Community College is a major force of economic development in New Hanover County. New Hanover County Estate Planning Council is honored and humbled to be able to provide scholarships for students like Kelsey Tregembo, and in our small way, contribute to the impact that these students will make in shaping our community.”

Joanne Ceres is the new CFCC Vice President of Student Services and Enrollment Management. She brings 25 years of higher education administrative and leadership experience to CFCC. A New Jersey native, Ceres holds a master’s degree in human services administration from Rider University. Joanne formerly served as interim vice president of student development services and dean of enrollment management and student services at Pitt Community College in Winterville, NC.

Two students from Jessie Mae Monroe Elementary both won the state United States Power Squadron Safe Boating Poster Contest in their respective age levels.

Kylee Blum took home top honors in the 9-12 age category and Peyton Withrow is tops in the 6-8 age category.

 

 


Proclaim Interactive welcomes two UNCW alumni to staff

Proclaim Interactive, a Wilmington digital marketing agency, recently hired Sam Bowman and Sarah Payne to help the agency amplify clients’ messages.

Bowman is an associate search engine marketing specialist. In his new role, Bowman will help clients reach their marketing goals through search engine optimization and pay-per-click campaigns.

Sarah Payne is an account manager who will be responsible for working directly with clients by guiding them through their projects.


Dosher receives $25K grant from Orton Foundation

Dosher Memorial Hospital Foundation has received a $25,000 grant from The Orton Foundation, the North Carolina affiliate of The Moore Charitable Foundation.

The funds will go toward the purchase of five vital sign monitors and a bladder scan instrument for Dosher Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department, which has earned two national awards the past two years for patient satisfaction.


Good Shepherd Center Executive Director wins Council of Governments Award

Good Shepherd Center’s executive director Katrina R. Knight was recognized by the Cape Fear Council of Governments with an Impact Award for her commitment and work toward supportive housing for New Hanover Country residents experiencing homelessness.

According to Chris May, Executive Director of the Cape Fear Council of Governments, “The Impact Award recognizes a person who has spearheaded a particular project or program that has furthered the Council’s goal of ending homelessness.”

 

 

 


Landfall Foundation awards grant to Belville Elementary

The Landfall Foundation funded a $7,500 grant for Belville Elementary’s “Smartboards for Classrooms” project.  School officials are using the grant to purchase more SmartPanel devices with a goal of putting one in every classroom.

Wilmington Childhood Cancer Support Group presented their annual Compassionate Caregiver Award to Jenifer Phelps of the Healing Partnership.

Phelps is the founder of the Healing Partnership, a group of practitioners offering support to those facing cancer, chronic illness, and chronic pain.

The Wilmington Childhood Cancer Support Group consists of 60 local families who have a child who was diagnosed with cancer. The group established this award in 2017 to recognize local practitioners who have gone above and beyond in caring for their children.
