
Update 12:30 p.m. —One fatality occurred during the fire. Fire has been contained according to Carolina Beach spokeswoman Sheila Nicholson.
CAROLINA BEACH — Several area fire departments have responded to a fire at Inland Harbor Condominiums in Carolina Beach.
Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Wilmington and New Hanover County Fire Departments were on the scene at 500 St. Joseph St. Monday morning.
According to Carolina Beach spokeswoman Sheila Nicholson, the fire has been contained. Nicholson could not confirm that all residents had been evacuated safely.
“Sounds like the fire started on the third floor,” said Wilmington Fire Chief John Mason. “In the attic space.”
With several area departments addressing the fire, Mason picked up information from the department’s radio signal.
Mason was unsure if all residents of the condominiums had been evacuated, but knew that firefighters on the scene had conducted preliminary searches.
“I do not know if residents had been evacuated.”
