We came back from the Thanksgiving holiday into a whirlwind news week. From hard questions for the Board of Education to a popular local professor facing a life and death situation, it was a busy week.

Thankfully, there was also some good news for those who like to kick back and relax — including Wilmington’s new and tallest rooftop bar, and a special look at an all-North Carolina beer.


We asked: why won’t the New Hanover Board of Education answer questions about the hiring of the Dean of Students at Ashley High School?

When an email from the school revealed that the Board was aware of troubling comments made by the Dean about a sexual assault victim before the Dean was hired, we asked the Board about it.

In the aftermath of devastating hurricanes like Fran and Floyd, North Carolina counties are required to maintain plans addressing issues like storm surges, flooding and rising sea levels.
