WILMINGTON — The YWCA is seeking a few outstanding achievers and young leaders, and it wants you to help.
The YWCA is seeking nominations for its 33rd annual Women of Achievement Awards. The deadline for nominations is Monday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. The event will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018, coinciding with Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, according to a press release.
The YWCA Women of Achievement Awards recognizes outstanding contributions and achievements of women and young leaders active in those counties. Nomination categories include arts, business, education, environmental, health and wellness, public service, social justice, Rachel Freeman Unsung Hero, volunteer and young leader.
“If you know an adult woman or female high school senior in Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover or Pender County who exudes qualities deserving of recognition, nominate her,” the release states.
Three Young Leader Award recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship to continue their education after high school.
Nominations are free and can be submitted online, via email, or mailed to the Women of Achievement Selections Committee. All nominees are recognized at the awards ceremony on March 8, 2018.
The Women of Achievement Awards is YWCA Lower Cape Fear’s signature fundraiser to celebrate women and young leaders in the community. Since 1985, the YWCA Lower Cape Fear has honored nearly 400 women. The event raises support for YWCA’s programs and services, which promote racial justice, and economic advancement for thousands of women, children and their families in southeastern North Carolina.
