WILMINGTON — The New Hanover County Public Library is participating in a Digital Dash contest with OverDrive, a digital reading platform, to encourage people to read free eBooks from the Library.
If enough borrowers check out digital materials between now and Dec. 31, the NHC Public Library will have a chance to win up to $5,000 to buy more eBooks and audiobooks for its OverDrive collection.
The Public Library currently offers library card holders access to over 42,000 eBooks, digital audiobooks, and streaming videos from OverDrive.
These include the N.C. Kids Digital Library, which was introduced last Spring and has almost 11,000 titles, especially titles aimed at Pre-K through 5th grade readers.
“We have been building the library’s digital collection since 2005, and this incentive from OverDrive could add leverage to our efforts to add more titles and more copies of popular titles,” said Library Director Harry Tuchmayer. “We are about 80 percent of the way to meeting our Digital Dash goal, and we hope to have even more support in these last two months.”
Anyone with a valid New Hanover County library card can access the library’s digital collection for free. There are never any lost books or late fees because digital titles automatically return themselves at the end of the lending period.
