WILMINGTON — After a contentious debate, lasting over a year, the Echo Farms golf course closed last weekend. This morning, a memorial appeared on the first green.

The memorial, fashioned from a painted boogie board and flanked by golf clubs, was spotted by Robert Dovichak. A resident of Echo Farms for 32 years, Dovichak said he didn’t know who had created the memorial.

The epitaph reads:

RIP Echo Farms Golf and Clubhouse 1974-2017

Dairy Farmer McEachern named it “Echo” because of the sounds from the nearby woodlands.

Death by development.
