WILMINGTON – A new service aimed at helping customers save time and money launched at two Wilmington Walmarts — Sigmon Road and Monkey Junction — on Wednesday.
Through the company’s online grocery pickup service, customers can place orders up to three weeks ahead of time and schedule a date and time to pick up their purchases. On the morning a particular order is set to be picked up, employees will hand-pick produce to select the best pieces and pack the load.
Tammy Jackson, the department manager of online grocery pickup at the Walmart on Sigmon Road, said that when a customer comes for pickup, an employee will bring the order to the car and go over each product with the buyer to make sure they are satisfied.
“Customers have been really impressed with it so far and are enjoying it,” said Jackson, who said that 13 orders were picked up by Wednesday afternoon. “They like that they can do everything online and then receive their purchases without having to leave their car.”
Those who use the new service during this launch period can receive $10 vouchers for referring others, said Jackson, that can be used toward their next online purchase. All orders must total a minimum of $30.
At the Sigmon Road location, seven parking spots have been designated for online customers on the west side of the building. The two Walmarts are the first in the area to have online grocery pickup.
