WILMINGTON – A woman has been charged with committing a sex act with a student while she was a student teacher at Murray Middle School.
Trisha Lynette Anderson-Rogers, 45, of Sarensen Court in Wilmington, was charged Thursday with one count each of solicit child by computer, indecent liberties with a child and indecent liberties with a student, according to New Hanover County jail records.
Rogers was a student teacher for one semester this past spring at Murray Middle School, in Wilmington, New Hanover County Schools Spokeswoman Valita Quattlebaum said. She had also previously served as a substitute teacher with the school district.
According to the arrest warrant, the child was a student at the middle school at the time of the alleged offenses, which ranges between Feb. 29 and May 5. The warrant states Rogers used a cell phone to “entice and coerce” the 13-year-old student for the purpose of a sex act.
“When the district was made aware of an issue with Ms. Anderson-Rogers, we notified law enforcement immediately,” Quattlebaum said.
Rogers’ internship was terminated and she was removed from the substitute teacher list on May 5, Quattlebaum said. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case.
Rogers was arrested Thursday and booked at the New Hanover County jail under a $20,000 secured bond. She has since been released from jail.
