WILMINGTON — The Greg Allman concert scheduled for Friday, July 29, at the Greenfield Amphitheater has been canceled due to illness. The band, however, will play on, sans lead singer Allman.
Allman was expected to play at 7 p.m. but is “feeling under the weather and will not be able to perform,” a press release from HUKA Entertainment states. HUKA was co-promoting the sold-out show with 98.3 FM The Penguin, a sister station of Port City Daily.
Allman’s band will perform for free, despite Gregg Allman’s illness, with local artist Travis Shallow opening, the release states. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the show expected to begin at 7 p.m., as originally scheduled.
Tickets will be available for refunds at point of purchase or they will remain valid for a rescheduled show, the date of which has yet to be announced.
“We apologize for any inconveniences this has caused and appreciate your loyal support to the music we have brought to our special Greenfield Lake Amphitheater,” the release states.
Allman, 68, was a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band. He released his seventh solo studio album, “Low Country Blues,” in 2011.
His current tour began in June on Annapolis and is expected to end in late October in Atlanta, according to Allman’s website.
